Update on our maple.
Umbriel: Look, the maple is all yellow now, and the leaves are already falling. They are all over the parking lot!

Fall colors III
Today has been mostly cloudy, but we added some pictures of fall colors anyway
Here's an update of our maple...
Look! The sun came out and set the tree on fire!
Some general views...
It would look nicer if the sky were blue...
Birches are turning to gold.
Here's a nice mountain ash at the lake.
Aspens are turning golden, too.
Mixture of deciduous trees and evergreen trees.
Ilmari came along on the trip.
Nice colors though the sky and the lake are grey.
The fish statue makes a nice climbing place.
- Nice fishie!

Ice-Bat and fall colors
A couple of days ago several wacky characters called Uglydolls followed me home. I could not prevent it. And of course they started demanding attention as soon as they were home. One of them, Ice-Bat has followed me around a lot and wanted to go out, too. I warned him that it is damp outside and he may get shabby, but he just argued that he is shabby enough looking right now, so a bit more won't do any harm.
Inkcaps on our back yard.
Ice-Bat: If your printer runs out of ink, you can pick these and make more ink. You don't have a printer? Well, find an old fountain pen then, and fill it up with these toadstools. Or maybe I'll make a cap out of one.
Here are a couple of maples across the street. All trees are not changing color at the same time, they are actually mostly still green, but there are already some very pretty ones.
Ice-Bat: Jeepers creepers, what colors! They are so fiery that I'm feeling hot!
Here's another pretty maple.
Ice-Bat found a late flower and some golden birch leaves.
Ice-Bat: Hey, this bell is a fake, it does not ring! I'll have to ring instead. Ding dong!
Ice-Bat: Here's another pretty bush - hey, don't leave me here, it's too far for me to walk home by myself! What do you mean I have wings? Bats don't fly in the daytime!
Apples fallen from a tree - getting a bit rotten. The leaf is from a nearby aspen, though.
Ice-Bat: How many points would I get from biting these apples? I would need many to try, they look quite rotten to me. Probably full of worms. Of course I could leave the apples and eat just the worms.
Here's another picture of the red creepers. Ice-Bat did not climb this one.
Ice-Bat: That looks nice, the creepers go all around the windows. People could climb up and down the creepers and go in and out through the windows. That would save the doors and stairs from wear and tear.

Umbriel watches signs of fall
It's already 15th of September, and trees have started changing color, but it has been rainy, and there have not been many opportunities to go out. There was a long enough break in the rain, however, so that Umbriel could go to the balcony to look at the maple on our parking lot.
Umbriel: I can see a bit of sunshine between the clouds!
Umbriel: The maple is turning very pretty, isn't it?

First Day of Fall
It's the first of September, and therefore officially the first day of fall. Niks and Naks wanted to go out to the forest again to see how it looks like now.
Niks: This is a real troll forest!
Naks: Yes! Just look at all these boulders. A huge troll has carted them here...
Niks: Or maybe it was the ice age...
Niks: Look! Another troll castle!
Niks: What a wonderful fly agaric!
Naks: We'll eat this for sure! What a treat!
Niks: Is this an ant hill?
Naks: No, it's just a heap of spruce needles on a boulder.
Niks: What a pity. I was looking for ants for dessert.
Naks: But there is a delicious looking toadstool here.
Niks: Yes! It is a mustarousku! We'll eat it for dessert.
Niks: Lovely soft moss. I think I'll take a nap after all that eating.
Naks: Me too, eating makes one sleepy.
Niks: Look! One more toadstool.
Naks: This is not a fly agaric...
Niks: We'll eat it anyway... Mmmmmm... it smells good.
Naks: Most flowers have gone to seed already.
Niks: So if you want to find color in the forest...
Naks: You have to look for toadstools...
Niks: Or leaves that have turned red and gold.
Naks: This blueberry is turning nicely!
